Kazan will host the BRICS summit in 2024. The corresponding decree on holding the forum was signed on Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The Head of State instructed to form an organizing committee to prepare and ensure Russia’s chairmanship in the association in 2024. Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, was appointed Chairman of the committee. He needs to approve the composition of the committee and the main activities within a month.

The Organizing Committee should present to Putin the agreed concept of the Russian Federation’s chairmanship in the BRICS association. The Russian government needs to provide financing for expenses.

BRICS is a commonwealth of five states — Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa. This year the summit is being held in the Republic of South Africa. Yekaterinburg and Ufa have hosted the BRICS summit in different years.

The organization (Commonwealth of States) was founded in June 2006, within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF) with the participation of the Ministers of Economy of Brazil, Russia, India, China. Since 2009, the governments of the BRICS countries have met annually at official summits. The last 14th BRICS summit was held in June 2022 in China.
